Grain finished cattle spend most of their lives grazing on pasture, then spend 4 – 6 months in a feedlot. They are fed a scientifically and healthy balanced diet of grains, such as corn, wheat, or soybeans. They may judiciously be given FDA-approved antibiotics or growth-promoting hormones. These cattle may be given vitamin and mineral supplements. They have continuous access to clean water and room to grow and roam. Tallcott cattle is not sent to a feedlot. Rather, they are raised on the Tallcott Farm from birth until they are processed at our local butcher.

Grass finished, also known as grass fed, cattle spend their entire lives grazing on pasture. They may judiciously be given FDA-approved antibiotics or growth-promoting hormones. They may also be given vitamin and mineral supplements.
